Canino Challenges Incumbent Cook to Debate
TORRINGTON – Republican State House Candidate Joe Canino has challenged Incumbent Representative Michelle Cook to a one-on-one debate ahead of this year’s November 5th election. A Torrington native, Canino has knocked thousands of doors in the city this election cycle, listening to voters’ concerns and discussing issues of affordability, public safety, and more. On Tuesday, September 10th, the Torrington Republican Town Committee (RTC) reached out to the Torrington Democratic Town Committee (DTC) to organize a debate at a neutral location, with a neutral moderator, in order to give Torrington residents a clear view into candidates’ character, as well as their vision for Torrington, and Connecticut at large. Canino has provided 18 potential dates that he is available to debate between now and November 5th. He hopes to have the chance to debate the issues dear to voters in the 65th District in an open format.
“The people of this great city deserve to have an informed choice. What better way to give an insight into our stances on key issues than a fair, honest debate between both candidates in a public setting. Residents are facing some of the steepest cost of living increases in decades. They are seeing more and more brazen crime unfold right before their eyes. They are upset with the decisions that have led to the current status quo, and they demand answers from their elected officials. They want to know where candidates stand on major issues. I call on my opponent to give the people what they deserve, to join me in front of the people of Torrington for a respectful discussion of the issues,” Canino stated.
